URBAN PHOTO RACE — PRESS BOILERPLATE ═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ ABOUT URBAN PHOTO RACE Urban Photo Race (UPR) is a one-day photography race held in European cities since 2011. Participants spend eight hours navigating a host city, responding to four themes revealed during the day, and submitting twelve photographs (three per theme). A jury of working photographers selects winners across overall ranking, per-theme awards, and jury favourites. The race is open to all photographers — amateur and professional, with any camera (including phone). It is not a street-photography genre competition; it is a citywide themed photo race built on the discipline of series construction: three frames building one idea. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT · Themes are revealed only during the race, not in advance. · Participants must work in series, not single shots — the jury rewards the strongest body of work over the best individual photo. · Each edition has a different jury and a different city. · Run since 2011, fifteen editions across Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Paris, Apeldoorn, and Brussels. SCALE AT A GLANCE · 15 editions held since 2011 · Up to 100+ photographers per edition · Cities: Amsterdam (multiple), Rotterdam, London, Paris, Apeldoorn, Brussels (2026, first Belgian edition) · Format: 8 hours · 4 themes · 12 photographs · 4 checkpoints ORGANISATION Founded and organised by Stuss Helder.
