UPR One is the concentrated form of the race.
One theme at the start, three hours in the city, one series of three photos at the end. The three are judged as one work: one idea, one visual line, in an order that makes sense.
Every frame has to earn its place.
Not far from the start stands Zadkine’s figure with a hole in its chest. Rotterdam did not cover the hole. It built around it. That is what a series asks: one idea, held for three frames.

At the start, find the flag and scan its code with your phone to check in, then stay for the briefing, where you hear the theme and where the race finishes.
The exact starting points are announced closer to each race. Both are easy to reach by public transport, so leave the car at home.
Juror of the Day and the Night, she looks at how the three frames work together: one idea, held across three photographs, in an order that means something.
Photographer Anaïs López is, first and foremost, a storyteller. She creates long-term multimedia projects that exist at the intersection of fiction and documentary. She is considered a pioneer in her field and has received numerous awards. Her work has been exhibited worldwide in museums and at festivals.

One race or both, €20 each or €35 for the two, and the race details reach you before the day.
Come 30 minutes early, scan the code at the UPR beach flag and stay for the briefing, where you hear the theme.
This is the hard one: the theme is the question and your series is the answer, three frames that do not work without each other.
Send your three before the deadline, then let the jury read every series as one work.

From 20 November 2026 to 28 February 2027, the Nederlands Fotomuseum presents Violette Cornelius Rediscovered. More than 200 works bring together the life and work of photographer and resistance fighter Violette Cornelius (1919–1998). Much of her work remained hidden for decades and, following extensive research into her archive, is now being shown on this scale for the first time.
