Reflecting on an incredible Urban Photo Race in Amsterdam, we're thrilled to share that over 100 talented photographers hit the starting line, a similar number crossed the finish line, and 90 brave artists submitted their unique captures. The event was brought to life through the engaging themes of:

JURY MEMBERS

ELI DIJKERS

Eli Dijkers (1978) was born and raised in The Netherlands. He graduated from the Academy of Photography in Rotterdam in 2012, after having been awarded a PhD in Pharmacy, Nuclear Medicine and Oncology. Since then he has received many recognitions for his photographic work, including multiple Honourable Mentions at the Black & White Spider Awards, Commended photographer in the Sony World Photography Awards and several Honourable Mentions at the Monochrome awards. He was winner of the Porta Coeli Artist Residency Award at the XIth edition of the International Contemporary Art Biennale of Florence and awarded Ilford MASTER in 2018, together with Sebastião Salgado.

Eli graduated the academy of photography with his interpretation of the city he lives in, Rotterdam, titled Temporal Existence. Post-graduation, he was one out of 12 photographers selected to document the city of Rotterdam. In addition, he is author of the self-published book Enigma, a confronting series of images about daily life on the streets of India. 

MONIQUE DE ZWART

Graduated from the Fotovakschool for the Photo Reflection study program, in the disciplines of mentor and reviewer.

She coaches photographers to further develop their content and creativity, and also gives lectures, workshops and courses on photography, including a course on judging photos.

She is active as a mentor in the Fotobond Nederlands Centrum voor Vrijetijdsfotografie and is a teacher at Forum Beeldtaal. She also works for BredaPhoto, International Photofestival.

BAS LOSEKOOT

Is a Dutch-born artist and photographer, concerned with socio-cultural issues in cities around the world. Working with cinematic apparatus, he is challenging our understanding of reality in everyday city-life as well as the limited narrative potential of representations of truth in documentary photography.

With an intuitive eye, he visualizes the human experience in modern megacities. His practice combines concepts of mobility, social geography and the cinematic. Bas Losekoot holds a BA in Fine Art Photography from the Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague and recently graduated for an MA in Photography and Urban Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. His work has been exhibited widely in galleries and at festivals including New York Photo Festival, Voies-Off/Les Rencontres d’Arles and Unseen Photo Fair Amsterdam.

For the UPR Amsterdam 2023, the following prizes can be won:

  • Best Photographer award: 1st place overall €250

  • Best Photographer award: 2nd place overall €120

  • Best Photographer award: 3rd place overall €70

  • Best theme: 4 themes x €50 per theme

  • Jury favorit: 3 jury members x €25 per jury favorit

The amount will be transferred to winner within 1 month of announcement of winners.
