Urban Photo Race Amsterdam – A Day of Vision, Chaos, and Reflection
On September 13th, 2025, photographers once again took to the streets of Amsterdam for the annual Urban Photo Race — a full-day creative challenge that celebrates observation, storytelling, and the art of seeing the city anew. With four evocative themes — Looking Up, Figures in the Chaos, Self-Indulging Reflections, and Virtuous or Vicious — participants were invited to explore urban life from unexpected perspectives.
The day began with the gentle hum of excitement as racers picked up their first theme and scattered through the city’s narrow alleys and open plazas. From early morning light glinting off canal water to the rush of cyclists threading through the crowd, Amsterdam provided a vibrant stage for creativity.
Each theme tested a different skill: “Looking Up” challenged photographers to break from the familiar and notice the beauty above eye level. “Figures in the Chaos” captured the rhythm of human presence within the city’s constant motion. “Self-Indulging Reflections” turned lenses inward and toward mirrored surfaces, while “Virtuous or Vicious” provoked moral and visual contrasts in urban storytelling.
After a day of exploration and artistic grit, the jury had the difficult task of selecting the best works. The Urban Photo Race once again proved that creativity thrives under constraint — when time is short, light is fleeting, and inspiration hides in plain sight. Congratulations to all the participants and winners of UPR Amsterdam 2025 — and thank you for making the city your canvas.
