The first Berlin race: six themes, eighteen photographs, an exhibition at the Wale Cafe, and Philipp Wolfart at the top of a podium he would return to.
The first Berlin Urban Photo Race ran on Saturday 10 October 2015, a sunny autumn day with leaves in the corners of the city and a low sun that made everything shine. Beginners and advanced photographers came from Italy, Spain, Germany, India, Venezuela, Colombia and China, with a few faces from Amsterdam among them.
It ended the way the race always ends, with the photographs on a wall: on Saturday 16 January 2016 the jury's favourites hung at the Wale Cafe (Le Balene Possono Volare), and the winners were announced in the room.
Six themes were revealed during the day: Personal Ritual, Behind, Sounds of the city, Balance, Wrinkles and Experience. Three photographs per theme, eighteen in total, and the jury scored the body of work as well as each series.
The team thanked everyone who took part and everyone who helped, on race day and at the exhibition: in their words a group effort, in which everyone did their part.
