UK: 3rd URBAN PHOTO RACE PARIS

Who would have imagined in winter, when the date of April 5th was chosen, that the weather would be record-breaking: not a single cloud in sight, a bright blue sky, almost summer-like temperatures with a light breeze. 106 people had signed up, and at the starting line, on the Place des Vosges, the oldest square in Paris, 100 people were present.

After the traditional welcome speech, accompanied by bubbles floating into the sky (the UPR is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year), the starting signal was given, and the first two themes along with the next checkpoint were revealed. With the themes “complices à 4 pattes” (four-legged companions) and “moment de pause” (time for a break) in hand, participants headed north, to the 13th arrondissement, to Station F, a 1920s railway building, now one of the world’s largest startup campuses. There, the 3rd theme “à travers” (seen through) and the next checkpoint, the outdoor sculpture museum, were announced. There was an opportunity to grab a bite in Station F’s giant food hall, with its urban and quirky vibe. And by chance, a pug on a floral rug was spotted (a true companion).

Next, the group headed to the Seine, where, amidst sculptures, blooming trees, and hundreds of Parisians basking in the sun, the final theme and last checkpoint were revealed: ‘Transport’ (transportation). The participants had to cross the Seine again, heading east towards Ground Control. An old postal sorting hall, now a multidisciplinary hybrid space, complete with food stalls and several bars. The race ended there, with cold beers or colorful cocktails under a very “tequila sunset” sky and string lights. What better way to unwind, relive the race, compare the kilometers covered, discuss the themes, and reminisce about the best moments of the day.

It was a fantastic race, with a great atmosphere – a huge thank you and congratulations to all the participants (many well-known faces, but many new ones as well)! Still, the adventure continues – very soon, the first results will be announced: first, the six pre-nominations, followed by the three winners, the four best themes, and the judges’ favorite picks.

And who knows, maybe we’ll see you soon in Amsterdam for the race on September 13. There is always a good reason to “photograph & celebrate”.

Qui aurait imaginé en hiver, lorsque la date du 5 avril a été choisie, que la météo serait digne d’un record: pas le moindre nuage à l’horizon, un ciel bleu éclatant, des températures presque estivales avec une légère brise. 106 personnes s’étaient inscrites et au top départ, sur la Place des Vosges, la plus ancienne de Paris, cent personnes étaient présentes. Après le traditionnel discours de bienvenue, accompagné de bulles de savon qui s’envolaient dans le ciel (l’UPR célèbre tout de même son 15e anniversaire), le coup de départ a été donné, et les deux premiers thèmes ainsi que le prochain checkpoint ont été révélés.

Avec les thèmes « complices à 4 pattes » et « moment de pause » en main, les participants se sont dirigés vers le nord, dans le 13e arrondissement, à la Station F, un bâtiment ferroviaire datant des années 1920 et aujourd’hui l’un des plus grands campus de startups du monde. Là, le 3e thème « à travers « et le prochain checkpoint (musée de la sculpture en plein air) ont été annoncés. Il y avait possibilité de se restaurer dans la gigantesque foodhall de la Station F, au cadre urbain et décalé. Et coup de chance, un carlin sur un tapis fleuri a été aperçu (très complice).

Ensuite, direction la Seine, où, entre sculptures, arbres en fleurs et de centaines de Parisiens profitant du soleil, le dernier thème et le dernier checkpoint ont été révélés : « Transport ». Il fallait traverser à nouveau la Seine, mais cap vers l’Est, direction Ground Control. Ancienne halle de tri postal, lieu d’expression et d’expérimentation, avec plein de stands de nourriture et plusieurs bars. Fin de course, autour d’une bière bien fraîche ou de cocktails haut en couleur, sous un ciel façon « tequila sunset » et des guirlandes lumineuses. Que de mieux pour se détendre, pour revivre la course, pour comparer les kilomètres parcourus, discuter les thèmes et se remémorer les meilleures scènes de la journée.

Ce fut un Race formidable, avec une très belle ambiance –un très très grand merci et bravo à tous les participants (beaucoup de fidèles mais aussi beaucoup de visages inconnus) ! Et l’aventure continue – très bientôt, les premiers résultats seront annoncés : d’abord six pré- nominations, puis les trois grands gagnants, les 4 meilleurs thèmes et les coups de cœur des trois juges.

Et qui sait, peut-être à très bientôt à Amsterdam pour la course du 13 septembre 2025. Il y a toujours une bonne raison de « photographier & fêter ».
